District Explorer
California's water and irrigation districts, one district at a time.
A free tool for exploring the state's irrigation and water districts with California's public data, built to be shown on a screen, printed for a board packet, or linked in an update.
Much of the water that reaches California farms is delivered by local districts, and each one sits in its own mix of counties, groundwater basins, crops, and supply contracts. The facts that describe a district are spread across DWR boundary maps and water use reports, county crop reports, groundwater sustainability plan annual reports, and reservoir and allocation records, and they are rarely seen together.
The explorer puts them on one page per district: where it sits, what it grows, how much water it applies, how its groundwater basin is doing, and what supply looks like this season. Find a district by name, county, subbasin, or groundwater agency, or select it on the map. Each district also has a printable fact sheet for boards, growers, legislators, and reporters.
